Choosing a light bulb is not as simple as it used to be. There is a few things that you have to keep in mind while looking for a replacement lamp. With the new LED technology it is important to consider the application and fixture style, before making your selection. There are few specific ratings to look out for:

Dimmable/Non Dimmable: Would you like your new lamp to dim, it must be rated to do so. It is also important to make sure your current dimmer is compatible with the lamp you would like to use.

For Totally Enclosed/Not For Totally Enclosed: This is an important one! The rating is for heat dissipation, if you have a fixture that is enclosed be sure to select appropriately rated lamp.

Colour Temperature: This is more of an aesthetic rating, one thing to keep in mind is a standard incandescent light bulb is around 2700 Kelvin. If your preference is a warm light stick to 3000 Kelvin or less. If you like bright white you will want to look 4000 Kelvin & above.

Looking for something with the best of both worlds bright when you need task lighting, warm when you are looking for an accent, new dim to warm technology, is great option. The colour temperature drops as you dim!
