Floor Levelling & Electric In-Floor Heating Installation

New flooring can drastically change the look of your home, giving it a fresh and upgraded look.  If you’re looking at new flooring, the first step is floor removal and floor levelling to ensure your new floors can be installed properly.  This is also a good time to consider installing electric in-floor heating.  Here is the floor removal process:

Floor Removal

First things first!  If you’re replacing the old flooring in your home, the first thing you need to do is remove the old flooring.  This can be a difficult, dirty and back-breaking task – especially if you don’t have the correct tools or technique.  Whether you’re removing linoleum, tile, hardwood or carpet, you have to be sure to grind off all residual thinset and adhesive so your sub-floor is clean and ready for the new floor.

Save yourself the backache and the headache and contact a professional floor removal company. They will specialize in floor removal and prep, making sure your sub-floors are clean, smooth – ready for the new installation.

Floor Leveling

If you are removing existing flooring, there’s a good chance you’ll find an uneven surface that may have to be leveled out.  Depending on the new flooring material you will be installing, there are different tolerances for ‘levelness’ of the floor.  To check for dips and bumps, slide a 4 to 6-foot straight edge in different directions around the room.  If you find spaces or ‘valleys’ beneath your level, then you may need to have your floors leveled.

The floor removal company will start by using carpet and floor shield to protect any existing flooring and use poly as necessary to protect other sensitive areas.  Then, they will seal off the perimeter and apply a primer to ensure the self-levelling product bonds properly.  If you have a concrete floor, they will grind the surface to ensure a proper bond.  Once the compound is dry, you will have a completely flat and level surface.

Electric In-Floor Heating

If you have removed your old floors and are preparing the surface to install a new floor, this is a great time to consider electric in-floor heating.  This is a great option that provides comfort and is a great selling feature.  Many companies will use NuHeat heating cables hooked up to a programmable Home touch pad thermostat.
