How to be sunroom-ready for spring and summer

Written by Rusco Industries Calgary Ltd.

Summer has begun it’s a great time to begin planning your annual outdoor cleanups, and somewhere on that list, sun rooms need to figure. After the long Calgary winter, undoubtedly there’s at least a layer or two of grime and dust to clear away. Here’s what you’ll need to do to get your sunroom in Calgary spiffy for summer enjoyment.

Clean the tracks and weep holes

With a vacuum or microfiber cloth, remove debris and dirt that’s accumulated in window tracks and weep holes—the small opening along the edges of window frames that allow moisture to escape. Once the tracks are clean, use a silicone spray to lubricate them to ensure that windows continue to be easy to open and close.

Clean the screens

Remove all the screens and use a garden hose to spray them off. Use a soft bristled brush and a mild detergent to dislodge any stubborn patches of dirt or grime. Allow the screens to dry completely before reinstalling them.

Clean the windows

Using a store bought glass cleaner and paper towels, or an ecofriendly solution of vinegar and water along with black and white newsprint, clean all the windows and doors. To avoid streakiness, clean on an overcast Calgary day and completely wipe away all moisture from each panel before moving on to the next.

Reinvigorate the space with fresh décor

Calgary sunrooms really start to take on personality and charm when decorated to suit the tastes of their owners. Spring is a great time to add to or embellish the décor you have with new furnishings or accents. An inexpensive weather resistant throw rug or brightly coloured planters can give the space a burst of freshness and energy. New cushions, curtains or candles can add softness and luxury to the space.
