Tips For Maintaining Your Real Hardwood Flooring

Hardwood flooring is beautiful. It adds a polished look to your home. It’s rich color makes your house look cozy and welcoming. But, it’s not always the cheapest option for flooring. So, it’s important that you keep your real hardwood flooring as clean and neat as possible. Finding the best ways to keep your floors nice can seem like a lot of work. So, here are a few tips to that might help you out!

Tip #1 For Your Real Hardwood Flooring Maintenance

First of all, it may put your mind at ease to know that maintaining your real hardwood flooring is pretty easy. As long as you work on it regularly, it should be fine. So, tip number one is simple: find a routine and do it! Try to stick to a normal schedule of cleaning. This will make it less overwhelming. It will also keep the condition of your floors from getting out of hand.

Tip #2

Sweep and dust mop everyday. This will help keep debris from damaging the hardwood surface. To sweep the floors, use a soft-bristled broom. Try to stay away from brooms that will scratch or be rough on the wood. Also, when you’re dust mopping, you can use a dry microfiber mop. You may also use a vacuum. But, it would probably be helpful to vacuum once a week instead of daily.

Tip #3

No liquid! Don’t use a wet mop to clean real hardwood flooring. Water can damage the finish on the wood. If there is a spill, you can use a cloth to clean it up. If you need to clean a stain or something, you can use a very slightly dampened mop. (By “slightly dampened”, we mean nearly dry!) Just use caution and try not to leave the floor wet.

Tip #4

Rugs are your friends! Use rugs in places where there is a lot of foot traffic. Also, if you have real wood flooring in your kitchen, place a rug near the sink. Any other places where the floor can possibly get wet should be covered, too. You should also place a rug near places like the front and back doors. People can get the dirt and other wood-damaging particles off their feet as they enter your home. This will help to prevent scratches.
