BC Hydro’s EV Charger Incentives Return

TDR Electric in Vancouver was excited to learn about the return of BC Hydro’s EV charger incentives. These incentives make electric vehicle (EV) charging stations more accessible in residential applications. Here is some information from BC Hyrdo:

EV chargers for single-family homes

Single-family homes can apply for a rebate of up to 50% of the purchase and installation costs of a Level 2 EV charger. It must be eligible. You can receive a maximum of $700. This incentive includes duplexes, townhouses with private garages, and parking.

You don’t need pre-approval from BC Hydro. Just submit the final invoices when the work is done.

First, you should check with your municipality to make sure the installation will be compliant with the incentive program. Then book a consultation with a reputable Vancouver electrician to see what the scope of work and the initial cost will be.

EV chargers for apartment and condo buildings

There are two rebates available for condo and apartment building wanting to install some EV chargers. These include:

EV Ready Plan: Get up to $3,000 for the creation of the EV Ready plan.

EV Ready Infrastructure Rebate: Get a rebate up to $600/parking stall to have electricians in Vancouver install the electrical stated in your EV ready plan.

EV Charger Rebate: Get up to $3,400 per charger to buy and install Level 2 networked EV chargers as per your EV Ready plan. This is available to a maximum of $14,000.

There is also the EV charger rebate of up to $4,000 per charger to buy and install Level 2 networked EV chargers in your building’s residential parking stalls – up to $14,000.

EV chargers for workplaces

The rebates are similar for workplaces. Get up to $4,000 per charger to buy and install eligible Level 2 networked EV chargers for your employees. This rebate is available up to a maximum of $14,000. You’ll need to get pre-approval from BC Hydro before you purchase or install the chargers. If you have multiple locations, you can apply separately for a full rebate at each location.
