You rely on your heating system to keep your home warm and comfortable. Just like any mechanical system, your heating system requires regular maintenance to keep it running at peak performance. Even so, furnaces do not last forever and will have to be replaced eventually. Here are some warning signs that it might be time for a new furnace:
1. Your furnace is 15 years old or more.
If you have an older furnace, it will be consuming far more energy than a new high efficiency furnace. A furnace that is older than 15 years old might require more repairs and maintenance services than a new one and could be costing you more on your energy bills. Consider replacing your old furnace with a high efficiency heating system.
2. Strange noises coming from your furnace.
All furnaces make a little noise while they are running, but if you are hearing something out of the ordinary like loud grinding sounds, it could be a motor problem. You likely need furnace repair or even a furnace replacement.
3. You can’t maintain a comfortable temperature.
If you’ve set a temperature on your thermostat and your home still feels chilly, it could mean that your furnace is under performing or that the pilot light has gone out. There could be other possible reasons for the lack of heating such as clogged vents and filters or a burnt out motor. You should get it inspected immediately.
4. You have a higher than normal energy bill.
If you have been noticing that your monthly bills have been higher than usual, it can be an indication that your HVAC appliances may be working harder than normal to maintain the temperature. It either means your furnace requires maintenance or it’s time to upgrade to a newer, high efficiency furnace.
5. You are always calling for service and repairs.
If it seems like you are always calling in for furnace repair every other month, it’s probably time to give up on that old furnace and replace it with a new one. Though the cost of a new furnace is a big investment, you will start to see savings on frequent repairs and on your monthly energy bills.
